Natural home remedies for asthma relief that grandmother’s swear by!
Asthma is an inflammatory lung disease that is characterized by symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, tightness or pressure in the chest area, and shortness of breath. This condition may be chronic or acute in adults, and is the leading cause of chronic illnesses in children. While there are a number of medicines that are prescribed to help control and prevent attacks, the truth is that there IS no proven medical cure for this condition. However, there are a few natural remedies that you may use to reduce the severity and frequency of asthma attacks.
Here are some home cures that grandmothers with their time-honored wisdom swear by!
Rubbing warm mustard oil on the chest and upper back area is known to reduce the severity of an asthma attack, help clear airways and make breathing easy.
Simply heat mustard oil mixed with some camphor powder, allow it to reach a comfortably warm temperature and massage the mixture on the chest and upper back. Repeat the massage 3-4 times a day until breathing eases.
A study presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference propounded that the addition of certain compounds of ginger to a beta-agonist (asthma medication) improved the bronchodilation effects of the medicine. Ginger contains compounds like gingerols, zingerones and shogaols that are known to possess analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
There are a number of ways to use ginger to soothe asthma issues. One popular way is to mix ginger juice, honey and pomegranate juice in equal quantities, and take a tablespoon of this mixture 2-3 times a day. You can also boil chopped ginger and water, allow it to steep, and then drink the mixture. Simpler still (if you can stand the taste), chew slivers of raw salted ginger.
