The following ten ultra processed foods can be a serious health risk and should definitely be eliminated from every healthy diet!
Despite the fact that ultra processed foods can lead to serious health issues such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes, they are still consumed on a daily basis. In fact, a recent study discovered that more than half of the calories Americans consume come from ultra-processed foods. Processed foods contain excessive amounts of sugar, chemicals, large amounts of salt, and unhealthy fats, among other things. While most foods are processed these days, the following ten items are considered “ultra processed” and should be avoided.
One of the things that make potato chips so crispy is partially hydrogenated plant oil. Unfortunately, this ingredient is also responsible for a lot of trans fats, which can increase the risk of heart disease. Another strike against potato chips is the fact that most of their calories are derived from fat, making them nutrient-poor. Potato chips are often full of salt to heighten their taste, and this increases your risk of hypertension. The brands that add artificial colors, flavors and preservatives to the chips are even worse. If you can’t give up potato chips completely, opt for brands that only list potatoes, salt, oil and sunflower or olive oil in the ingredients.
