Most women know that, if they detect a lump in their breast, it's important to see a doctor right away to test for cancer. However, you also need to be checking for more unusual signs of breast cancer routinely to help catch any cancerous cells early.
There are some lesser known, and less common, signs that you may have breast cancer. Knowing what they are helps you stay on top of your health and can save your life. These unusual signs of breast cancer are significant enough that should you detect any of them, seeing your physician right away is vital.
Unfortunately, swelling is something that could be associated with a wide range of issues, so you may be prone to ignoring it near or around your breast. However, swelling that occurs in the breast, armpit or collarbone could be indicative of inflammatory breast cancer, which is very aggressive and requires prompt medical care.
Puckered skin, even without a noticeable lump, could be a sign that you have breast cancer. In some cases, this orange peel-like effect can be blamed on an infection called mastitis, which is most common among breastfeeding mothers. Likewise, this is still possible if you aren’t nursing. In some instances, however, this puckered or dimpled looking skin can indicate breast cancer. It may appear on its own or be accompanied by pain, redness or a lump under the affected skin. The sooner you see your doctor, the better your prognosis.
